We provide screenings, comprehensive evaluations, consultations and individualized treatment in a child’s natural environment. We specialize in speech sounds disorders, early language, school age language, early literacy (i.e. phonological awareness, sound-letter correspondence), and higher level language skills (i.e. decoding, spelling, oral narrative and discourse, reading comprehension, writing and spelling). Why work with Busy Bee Speech?
What makes us different?
At Busy Bee Speech, we are constantly learning and strive to use the latest evidence-based practice to help children communicate effectively. Communicating effectively includes both oral and written language. Children with language impairments and/or speech sound disorders are at risk for reading and spelling difficulties later on, impacting academic achievement. We incorporate literacy activities or goals into our treatment plans.
Research has revealed that children with speech impairments may present with challenges producing and perceiving speech sounds. Some of these children struggle with letter sound correspondence /b/ says “b”), decoding, spelling, comprehension, or phonological awareness. You may be wondering—what is phonological awareness? Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds and syllables in spoken words. Some activities include: blending syllables, recognizing/generating rhymes, and segmenting sentences. Phonological awareness is a powerful predictor of reading and spelling success in the early school years. Therefore, at Busy Bee Speech, we believe in early print exposure!
Individualized therapy is an opportune time to address not only oral language or speech sound production but also the connections between speech sounds and their associated letters and letter patterns. We believe in addressing multiple aspects of communication since speech, language and literacy are deeply intertwined processes.
With continued learning and personalized care, we strive to help our clients communicate effectively and promote overall confidence.
